Who'd you rather have?
Personally I'd rather have Williams. Amazing PG, can really do it all. He's gotta great basketball IQ. Not to mention that you can't win without a good PG. There's plenty of solid scorers out there who don't play defense like Melo.

Williams. PG are so important to the success of a franchise.

Melo, my opinion hes the best scorer in the league, espcially if he wants to play like he will in New York.

Elite Scorers win championchips.....Look at LA. Is Fisher an above average PG? Melo is clearly the better player.

Absolutely Melo is the better player. But look at all the championship teams and even the ones that lost the big game. over 90% of them had great to elite Point Guards. The Lakers are obviously the exception to the rule because they have the best player in the league. Those types make everyone around them better. Melo, however, does not. He can't play defense and will mail it in when things don't go his way (as do a lot of players these days). Melo has no rings. LeBron has no rings. Bosh has no rings. Howard has no rings. You need more than an elite scorer to win a title. My point was: if I started a franchise tomorrow, my first pick to build a franchise around would be Rose/Williams/Paul/Rondo (maybe Durant but only because he will be the next dominant NBA player). But, the Knicks are coached by D'Antoni so, defense isn't exactly part of his game. Melo should thrive

I would take Williams but the knicks still got a good deal because they also got Billups.

I would easily take Melo because although Williams is good I think Melo is a much more elite caliber player. I think if you had to put either of them on a team by themselves Melo's team would be better.

The Nuggets can't even beat lesser seeds.

Williams is also a great defender.

The Nuggets have made 7 consecutive playoff appearances with Melo, one resulting in a Western Conference finals lost. And I would not consider the best if not one of the best, rebounding duos in Millsap and Jefferson a "no name cast". Also Williams has some personal problems one of them that ended Jerry Sloan's 23 year tenure because he felt bullied by Williams.

And I am a Knicks fan so for those of you that would rather have Williams I can see where you are coming from since you think it is easier to build a team around a PG, which I will agree with you on. Although since we had Felton (before the Melo trade) and now Billups, we did not necessarily need D-Will more than Melo, but your preference on D-Will or Melo is based on your team needs. Also this is sort of off-topic but does anyone else find it ridiculous that the Nuggets aren't starting Felton or Chandler?

I can see Felton not starting because Lawson is the future and he might be traded. Same with Chandler because Affalo is the future at SG.

It's easy to see that Kobe is the best player in the league for many reasons but I will choose to focus on one specific reason: He doesn't need another superstar to win a ring. Sure he had Shaq, but he has won a couple without him. And before people say that Gasol is a superstar; is he really? Go back and look at his numbers in Memphis and compare them with other top big men in the league at that time. He wasn't even close to them. LeBron and Bosh took the easy way to the championship just as Melo is doing. They can't win by themselves. Williams may not be the dominant scorer that Melo is but remember that Melo has been in the league longer and still doesn't have a ring.
And yes, I consider almost beating the defending champions twice a bigger feat than losing to a 5, 6 or 7 seed when you are supposed to be better than that every year. That just tells you how motivated Melo really was, because if he is as "great" as people think he is, he would have at least one ring by now.

Melo should be more motivated in NY. Williams doesn't have a ring either...and he had Boozer on his team also.
Melo is only 26. Kobe was in his 30's before he carried a team to a championship

Very good points. I guess the only way to see who really wins this trade or to assess who has the better career is to wait and see. But ultimately, if LeBron, Bosh, Amare, or Melo don't win a championship in the next 2 to 3 years, I think it is easy to say that none of them are as good as people think.

Yeah...Williams can also opt out after this year.
New question...will the Knicks get either Paul or Williams? Not necessarily which one, but will the Knicks get either? I think they will, probably Paul.

Yeah, a source close to the team has said that that is what they plan on doing. I think if Paul can stay healthy and show no regression over the next season he will be the guy the pursue.

Yeah and he wants to come to NYC with what I know. Astros just wondering, are you a Knick fan, too?
