the padres trade Tim Stauffer (6yrs) 5.25Mill to the dodgers for prospect John ely.
I accept this deal to get a decent future mid rotation starter that is cheaper than Stauffer.

I accept because Stauffer is a sleeper candidate and a talented pitcher. I don't expect Ely to start in the majors at any point and Stauffer lets me maneuver one of my other pitchers.
