C: Carlos Santana........0.5..........2nd Year 1B: Billy Butler..............3.0.....5th Year 3B: Pablo Sandovall.......1.0.........3rd Year Lonnie Chisenhall, 3B (prospect) Jason Kipnis, 2B (prospect)
for
SP- Luke Hochevar $1 M (4) C- Matt Wieters $1 M (3) - seasons under contract: 1B- Mitch Moreland $.3 M (1) - seasons under contract: 3B- Alex Rodriguez $27.5M (2017) (w.sox pays $3.5M) Util/DH- David Ortiz $12.5 M (14) - seasons under contract: 1 Tanner Scheppers, RHP (prospect) Robbie Ross, LHP (prospect)
(Rangers pay $4 Million of Ortiz contract in 2011)
I accept this trade because I love the idea Carlos Santana and Pablo Sandoval as building blocks. i give up Scheppers who is my best pitching prospect left and Robbir Ross but I get back 2 good offensive prospects. I think my current MLB pitchers are young enough and under contract long enough for me to work on my offense now.

I like this deal a little better for the Rangers especially with Butler who is the best piece (and young pure hitter) in the deal. Rangers gets some good veterans and young talent.

Both sides get some good prospects and some good veterans. I think the Rangers come out on top by getting Santana and Chisenhall, but the Indians get A-Rod, who's still a top 30 player, and a few other solid players and prospects.
